Woman's Life Statement
June 2020
Woman’s Life Insurance Society grieves with our nation regarding the unnecessary and tragic death of George Floyd, as well as those of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbrey and far too many others, known and unknown.
We stand with the Black Community and others who have been subjected to repeated injustice. As Martin Luther King Jr. stated “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
At our core is the desire to help others and make a positive difference in our world. We are proud of the work our chapters do to include and support the most vulnerable members of their communities. We are inspired by these members, the diverse networks and friendships they have built, and the actions they take together to address inequality and racial bias.
Our country is fractured and threatened in many areas. There is great pain and misery that will not heal quickly. However, we pray that the protests and demonstrations occurring throughout our country can lead to true social change, including “liberty and justice for all”.
We recognize that for our nation to heal and move forward we all must do our part. Significant change will require a new level of engagement and commitment from each of us. We must listen more and take a united stand against racism and hatred in all forms. We must hold ourselves and each other accountable to ensure that all people are treated with dignity and respect.
It is our hope that when we reflect on this time in history, we will be able to say that we came together, supported each other, and created a society that offered true equality and opportunity to all.
